As a physician and a fan of southern Utah's natural beauty, I can’t support a proposed coal strip mine smack dab in the middle of a stunning southern Utah landscape, on the doorstep of Bryce Canyon National Park. Why would we risk the air quality, and therefore cardiovascular and respiratory health, of southern Utah residents with increased dust and heavy truck traffic? Why risk spoiling the natural beauty of our national parks?
This is the 21st century, not the 19th century. It is past time for Gov. Gary Herbert and other Utah leaders alongside the BLM to stop harming our current health and welfare by enabling those who want to make every last dollar from the fuel of the past.
