ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Milford's Ryder Wright and Nephi's Katelyn Badham are in first place of their respective events after the Monday evening session of the National High School Finals Rodeo.
Wright, who was in a 2-way tie for fifth in all-around cowboy, scored a 76 in saddle bronc riding while Badham completed her barrel race in 17.13 seconds.
Veyo's McLayne Pearson was sixth in pole bending in the first round with a 20.797 run and was also in the running for rookie all-around cowgirl at ninth place.
In steer wrestling, St. George's Sil Bundy was 11th with a run of 8.39 and Herriman's Leroy Dansie was four spots behind at 16.98.
In team roping, Washington's Dax Barnson and Las Vegas' Austin Carter were in fourth place with a time of 7.16 while Erda's Brodi Jones and Ephraim's Stefan Ramone were 13th with a time of 11.87.
In boys cutting, Farmington's Ian Dixon was tied for 16th with 129 points. In girls cutting, Genola's Madi Rose wasn't ranked after posting 120 points.
In goat tying, Cedar Valley's Alexa Smith was 21st after posting a 9.87 while Kanarraville's Tenille Rhodes was not ranked after a time of 11.69.
In the evening session, Eagle Mountain's Ashley Allen and Mount Sterling's Baylee Bankhead were fifth and 22nd in breakaway roping, respectively, with Allen posting a time of 2.48 and Bankhead finishing in 3.36,
The boys team, which led after Sunday's session, was in second place with 910 points. Idaho was in first with 935. The girls team was ninth with 510 points. Texas was in first with 990.
