ALBANY, N.Y. — A fundraiser for former Ute All-America Luther “Ticky” Burden will be held at Albany High School Friday to help meet medical costs of treating a rare liver and heart disease.

Burden, who went on to play for the New York Knicks and Virginia Squires after college, has ATTR amyloidosis, which causes the immune system to produce abnormal forms of antibodies. Burden, who lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has been flying between there and New York for treatments.

Burden said he began feeling sick shortly after being in Utah for a ceremony honoring the top basketball players in school history several years ago.

The Luther “Ticky” Burden Fund has been established at First Niagara Bank, 899 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203. For information on Friday’s fundraiser, contact event organizer Warren Mackey at (518) 365-6768.
