NEW YORK — A lost Red Sox World Series ring is back on the finger of its owner, thanks to a nifty pickup by an ardent New York Yankees fan.

The 2013 championship ring was misplaced Thursday night in a Manhattan restaurant by Drew Weber, who owns Boston's minor league team in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The diamond, sapphire and ruby ring was found on a restroom sink by Luigi Militello — he owns Luke's Bar and Grill, and is a lifelong Yankees fan.

Weber and Militello spoke that night. They put aside their rooting interests and returned the ring Friday.

Weber and the Red Sox have invited Militello to Fenway Park for Derek Jeter's final regular-season game on Sept. 28. Weber also is making a donation to a charity chosen by Militello.

The Red Sox haven't put a value on these rings. The ones they presented for winning in 2004 were worth about $30,000.
