MAGNA — A man was treated for smoke inhalation Sunday after rescuing his neighbor's dog from a fire and attempting to extinguish the flames.
Chris Atkin, a spokesman for Unified Fire Authority, said crews were called out to a fire around 2 p.m. near 3780 South and 8070 West. A man had noticed a fire outside his neighbor's home and helped a dog exit the house and spread water on the flames while waiting for fire crews to arrive, Atkin said.
"It sounds like when he was trying to put some water on the fire with his hose, he got a breath of smoke in and irritated the lungs," he said.
Atkin said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have started outside the home and spread into the attic, causing damage to living space.
The home was empty at the time of the fire, Atkin said. A damage estimate had not yet been determined Sunday.
