KEARNS — Unified police continued looking Monday for a man who allegedly grabbed a 12-year-old girl in an apparent abduction attempt.
About 2:40 p.m. Saturday, a 12-year-old girl and her 18-year-old aunt were walking near 5185 S. Charlotte Ave. (5100 West), said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The two were walking past a man standing outside a black SUV when the man suddenly grabbed the girl, he said.
"As the 12-year-old passed the suspect, he grabbed her from behind and started to pull her back toward his car. The aunt hit the suspect in the head, causing the suspect let go of the victim," Unified police reported in a prepared statement.
The man then drove off, and the two females ran home and called police.
Detectives were looking for a Hispanic man, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 235 pounds, with short black hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, white shoes and a maroon jersey.
The man was driving a dark four-door SUV, possible a Chevy Tahoe, with shiny rims.
Anyone with information can call police at 801-743-7000.
