Thirty-eight years ago I worked as an animal control officer. At that time, the ACO was viewed with the utmost venom. No one gave the dogcatcher respect, and it often resulted in turnovers in employees. Fast forward to our police force today.
Modern police have such high stress levels that they suffer a higher incidence of health problems and divorces compared to the general population.
There is a trend to demonize the police. If we disrespect the people who are truly doing their best to protect us, we will see high turnover in a profession that needs experienced, capable people. Most go into that job with high ideals, and we should expect that type of person. I don't want that thin blue line made so thin that it breaks.
