The U.S. and Iran have been engaged in important talks to reach an agreement over Iran's nuclear power development. They are delicate and nuanced and may very well determine whether the U.S. provokes further military engagement in the Middle East. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he will bring to the floor possible sanctions against Iran.
Even the discussion of sanctions against Iran has the possibility of disrupting the talks. On Jan. 7, Sen. Orrin Hatch's office reported to me that the senator supports sanctions. With all his years in office, I'm certain he understands well how delicate and sensitive these types of negotiations are.
I call on Sen. Hatch to let diplomacy work. Support the talks and do so publicly.
