SALT LAKE CITY — Police were investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man, Saturday evening.
According to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Rich Brede, "a passerby in a vehicle noticed a man who was on the ground" near 1220 E. and Parkway Ave. (2400 South) at about 7 p.m.
The person went to help the man and "upon examining him, summoned others to help. They recognized that he had been shot in the torso area and they called police," Brede said.
Police found a blood trail from the 24-year-old man to Elizabeth Street, about a block east of where he was found.
A handgun was found next to the man, who was unconscious and not breathing.
Medical crews took the 24-year-old man to the hospital where he later died.
According to Brede, no one reported hearing shots fired in the area. Police did not know whether other people were in involved or if the shooting was a suicide.
"It's unknown if he walked here on his own accord. We don't know that yet. We don't know if he was acting alone, if it was self-inflicted. We're still trying to work all that out right now."
Few other details about the shooting were released Saturday. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
