Utah State women's tennis (3-0, 0-0 MW) travels to Provo on Wednesday to face No. 65 BYU in a Beehive State showdown at 10 a.m. This is the first road match of the season for the Aggies, who are already 3-0 at home.
"BYU is probably the most talented team we have on our schedule and will be ranked in the top 40 when the new rankings are released," USU head coach Sean McInerney said. "It is a great opportunity and challenge to compete against them. This match will give us a good idea of where we are as a program moving forward."
Utah State is led by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's No. 1-ranked singles player in the Mountain Region, senior McKenzie Davis. Davis recently set the Utah State career singles wins record as she recorded her 74th victory against Idaho State last week, passing Hailey Swenson (2007-11) who held the record with 73 singles wins. Overall, the Aggies are 17-1 in dual match singles play, including 3-0 records from Davis, freshman Sabrina Demerath and sophomore Nini Guensler. In doubles, Davis usually partners with freshman Maggie O'Meara, and the duo are 3-0 in dual matches. Guensler and fellow sophomore Lexi Turley are also a perfect 3-0 in dual match doubles action.
BYU (2-0, 0-0 WCC) is coming off a win over No. 37 Houston and is led by Mayci Jones, ranked by the ITA as the No. 4 singles player in the Mountain Region. Nicollete Tran is ranked No. 17 in the Mountain Region, while Meghan Sheehan-Dixon is ranked No. 18. The duo of Jones and Tobi Miclat is ranked as the No. 1 doubles tandem in the region, while Tran and Savannah Ware are ranked No. 9.
Live stats will be available through BYU, along with a live stream that will be available online.
