HOLLADAY — The city and its tree committee are starting the Holladay Street Tree program. The city will help homeowners place new trees in residential landscapes' right-of-way areas.
Applications for the program are available at the front desk of city hall or on cityofholladay.com. The program is first-come first-served.
The city's tree committee will issue vouchers for residents to redeem at one of the participating nurseries for the dollar amount and tree specified. A city employee or volunteer will visit the home a few weeks later to make sure the tree has been properly planted and is being cared for.
Applicants must be Holladay residents, and the planting site must be at a residential location within city boundaries. The tree must be planted in a city right-of-way location which is typically within 15 feet of the city street.
Recipients must accept all responsibilities, liabilities, transportation needs, proper planting and care of the tree. Residents may request one to two trees on their application. No more than two trees will be approved in a six-month period, and no more than four trees are available in a two-year period.
Acceptable types of trees can be found at www.slcgov.com/forestry/trees or at treeutah.org. For more information, visit facebook.com/HolladayCityTrees or email holladaycitytree@ymail.com.
