Want your baby to have a unique name that no one in the history of humankind has ever had? Well, you may want to start saving.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Swiss company Erfolgswelle will find a unique name for your baby, as long as you pay them $32,000. This helps pay for the 31 workers who will spend about 100 hours searching for a totally unique name, the Chronicle reported.
”We are looking for nice families who would like to take the chance of creating a wonderful new and never heard name for their baby,” the company’s CEO Marc Hauser told the Chronicle. “They could be stars and celebrities from Hollywood or Bollywood as well. We are sure that rock stars and actors have the guts to give it a try. Because we are looking for real pioneers with the heart of explorers and adventurers in this new field.”
To create a one-of-a-kind moniker, researchers compile a list of odd names. Then, other researchers sift through birth certificates and historical archives to make sure the name hasn’t yet been used, The Chronicle reported. After both translators and lawyers approve the name, it’s available for use for the first time.
But, of course, as BuzzFeed’s Rachel Wilkerson Miller points out, once you use the name for your child, it’s free for anyone to use and can’t be copyrighted. And Erfolgswelle seems to believe that's okay.
“It's a good thing they can't!" the company’s website said. "It's enough that companies fight over brands."
And some of these names may be in high demand. According to Erfolgswelle’s website, the company will test your name with an audience to see how much appeal it has. One lucky Erfolgswelle user will also get refunded the $32,000 if they use the company's suggested baby name and announce it to the press, their website said.
