The time has come for the Senate to prove to the American people that Washington can work, Sen. Orrin Hatch argues in a new op-ed for The Washington Times.
"With so many critical challenges facing our nation today, there has never been a more important time for the Senate to function effectively," the senior senator from Utah wrote Tuesday.
Hatch, who mentions in his op-ed that he has been in the Senate for 38 years, says he has seen the Senate "at its best and, more recently, at its worst," and what he considers to be a recent turn for the worse has damaged the legislative body's relationship with its constituents. "Rather than simply bemoan this recent institutional damage," he wrote, "Senate Republicans have a duty to use our newfound majority to restore the Senate."
