"LOVE ON A WHIM," by Aubrey Mace, Covenant Communications, $15.99, 252 pages (f)
Author Aubrey Mace, a Utahn and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, tells a fun-spirited unexpected love story in her latest book, "Love on a Whim."
Rachel Pearce is a lawyer who recently graduated from Stanford. After months of hunting for the perfect job, her prospects are glum despite her Ivy League education. Living in a bare apartment with hardly a crumb to eat, her desperation to work anywhere grows. Then, she runs into an old acquaintance, Henry Walker.
Henry is not just a successful millionaire and Rachel's best friend's ex-boyfriend; he's also Rachel's old crush. He offers her a job as his secretary, which Rachel refuses initially but is forced to accept out of hungry desperation.
Rachel soon finds working for Henry is really strange as he sends her on odd errands, including daily cookie runs. However, nothing can prepare her for an extravagant date/not-date he takes her on.
As Rachel tries to navigate her professional relationship with Henry, romantic feelings begin to deepen between the two of them, making their relationship all the more confusing. Of course, Rachel still thinks Henry hasn't gotten over her best friend.
"Love on a Whim" is a clean romance woven through humorous, witty writing and relatable characters. The characters are members of the LDS Church, but it's not a main theme throughout the book.
Mace's book is free of any swearing, violence or sexual content. Any romance doesn't go beyond kissing.
