Salt Lake students take honors in math contest

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City School District recently held its annual MATHCOUNTS competition with competitors from seven schools.

Students who took individual honors were: first place, Sumner Bell, Clayton Middle School; second place, Chris Li, Hawthorne Elementary; and third place, Rodrigo Gallegos, Clayton Middle School.

Hawthorne Elementary earned the title of team champions with members Celeste Litchfield, Fiona Tsang, Simon Peaslee and Joseph Bonacci. Clayton and Hillside middle schools also placed as team winners.

This year’s competition was held at Innovations High School.
