Reasons for Keystone XL

There is much controversy over building the Keystone XL pipeline for transporting oil from Alberta, Canada, to oil refineries on the coast of Texas. Republicans are for it and the Obama administration opposes it.

Oil from Alberta would be transported to U.S. refineries, which are under vigilant supervision by the EPA to prevent environmental pollution. Refining Alberta oil any other place on the planet probably produces more pollution.

Pipelines are also the cheapest, safest and least-polluting means of transporting crude oil. The pipeline would also send a message to Russia that the U.S. opposes Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and we intend to provide competition to deny them energy exports.
