USU tennis: No. 73 men's tennis returns home to face Northern Colorado on Friday

No. 73 Utah State men's tennis (9-2, 1-0 MW) returns home, where it is 4-0, to face Northern Colorado on Friday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. The match is currently scheduled to be held at the USU Outdoor Courts on the campus of Utah State University, however, if the forecasted weather changes, the match could be moved to the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.

Utah State returns home after competing in three matches in Arizona. The Aggies are led by a trio of sophomores: Dennis Baumgartner, Sebastian Schneider and Karan Salwan, who are a combined 26-3 in dual match singles play this year. Just behind them is freshman Jaime Barajas, who holds an 8-2 record. Barajas earned the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week award on Jan. 28, after helping USU earn its first MW conference victory against then-No. 70 San Diego State. In doubles, Baumgartner and senior Marcus Fritz lead the Aggies with an 8-3 record, playing primarily at the first doubles position. Senior Matt Sweet and sophomore Jack Swindells hold a 6-4 record during dual match play.

Northern Colorado (2-2) is coming off a close loss to Montana State after riding a two-match winning streak. The Bears are led by Ben Gendron, who is a perfect 4-0 at the No. 1 spot. Austin Mayo is 2-1 in his last three matches. In doubles play, the Bears look to Gendron and Mayo, who are 2-2 on the young season.
