UTAH STATE PRISON — The lockdown at the Utah State Prison following a fatal fight between two inmates was lifted in all but two cell blocks Thursday.

As of Thursday afternoon, only the Uinta 2 and Uinta 4 housing units in the maximum security area of the prison remained on lockdown.

All of the prison was locked down on Tuesday following the death of Julio Guerrero, 23, who investigators say was killed by "asphyxiation and blunt force trauma."

His cellmate, Mario Lucero, 33, is believed to be responsible. Lucero is already serving a 15-years-to-life sentence for murdering a St. George man when Guerrero was killed.

A motive for the attack had not been announced as of Thursday, nor how long Lucero and Guerrero had been cellmates prior to their fight.
