SANDY — The final $42 million in bonds from the 2010 Canyons School District bond election are about to be issued.

The Canyons School Board has adopted a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of the bonds, which are the last of the $250 million authorized by voters in the 2010 election.

The proceeds will fund the rebuild of Alta View and Butler elementary schools, the rebuild of Midvale and Mount Jordan middle schools, and renovations to Indian Hills Middle School.

This step will allow Canyons District to capitalize on lower construction costs and borrow funds at low interest rates, which currently are around 2.6 percent, according to the district.

The Mount Jordan rebuild is expected to be completed in the fall. Butler Elementary will be completed in fall 2016. Midvale Middle and Alta View Elementary would be finished in fall 2017, with the Indian Hills renovations completed in fall 2018.

Other projects completed with bond funds are Corner Canyon High School, upgrades at Brighton and Hillcrest high schools to accommodate ninth-graders, Butler Middle School rebuild, Draper Park Middle School (formerly Crescent View Middle School) rebuild, Midvale Elementary School rebuild, Albion Middle School refurbish and seismic upgrades at Sandy Elementary.
