High school girls basketball: 5A girls basketball state tournament capsules

Unlike last year when unblemished Riverton came into the 5A state tournament as the team everyone wanted to beat, there are a slew of squads this season that have made compelling cases for why they should be the most feared heading into the playoffs.

Evidence: The three best regions in 5A all had two teams tied at the top of the standings when the regular season wrapped up, and there’s not much reason to think that Layton, Fremont, Brighton, Alta, Riverton and American Fork can’t all make a serious run at the crown.
