The Utah Grizzlies (23-20-4-3) defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 2-0, on Monday afternoon at Maverik Center before 7,147 fans for the Maverik Monday Presidents Day matinee.
With the win, the Grizzlies take two of three games in the holiday weekend series after splitting two games in Boise on Friday and Saturday.
Grizzlies goaltender Igor Bobkov earned his first shutout of the year as he stopped all 32 shots he faced, including 16 in the third period to improve to 6-1 at Maverik Center this season and 8-6-1-0 on the season overall.
Patrick Wellar and Michael Pelech each had one goal and one assist in the contest.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead with a four-on-four goal with less than 11 seconds left in the first period as Mathieu Aubin and Pelech played a puck off the wall and fed Wellar who walked in for the score.
Utah made it 2-0 with 5:33 left in the second period as Wellar crossed the blue line in transition and fed it to Pelech for his team leading 24th goal of the year.
The Grizzlies killed three penalties in the third period and never let Idaho get back in the game as they blocked several shots in addition to the Bobkov saves.
Utah plays in Alaska on Friday and Saturday with a 9:00 p.m. start time for both nights and Sunday at 5 p.m.
