Utah center Jakob Poeltl on watch list for inaugural Jabbar Award

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah freshman Jakob Poeltl is one of 15 players named to the watch list for the inaugural Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.

A national committee, under the direction of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, will narrow the field to five finalists in early March. The winner will be announced at the ESPN College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles on April 10.

Besides Poeltl, the Jabbar Award watch list includes Bobby Portis (Arkansas), Alan Williams (UCSB), Josh Scott (Colorado), Jahlil Okafor (Duke), Joshua Smith (Georgetown), Willie Cauley-Stein (Kentucky), Jarell Martin (LSU), Kennedy Meeks (North Carolina), Brad Waldow (Saint Mary’s), Stefan Nastic (Stanford), Rakeem Christmas (Syracuse), Damian Jones (Vanderbilt), Daniel Ochefu (Villanova) and Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin).
