SALT LAKE CITY — Nursing mothers would be exempt from jury duty under a bill the Utah Legislature passed.

The Senate approved HB154, on Thursday 23-1. It unanimously passed the House last week. It now goes to the governor for consideration.

Bill sponsor Rep. Mike McKell, R-Spanish Fork, said the bill would remedy a situation he didn't know existed until a constituent wrote him a letter saying that she was not excused from jury service, even though she was breast-feeding her child.
