TUCSON, Arizona — Alvaro Saborio scored two goals Saturday night to lead Real Salt Lake to its second Desert Diamond Cup victory in two games.
The RSL designated player scored in the 41st and 58th minutes in the 3-1 victory over tournament hosts FC Tucson at Kino North Stadium.
Real played what looks like its first-choice 4-3-3 lineup (Nick Rimando; Demar Phillips, Jamison Olave, Chris Schuler, Tony Beltran; Kyle Beckerman, Luis Gill, Javier Morales; Sebastian Jaime, Olmes Garcia and Saborio) for 60 minutes, leaving the game with a 2-1 lead.
Devon Sandoval capped the scoring with a penalty kick score, his second goal in two games. The PK was given after Jordan Allen was taken down inside the box.
The PDL side showed more fight than it did in its 6-0 loss to Seattle earlier in the week.
RSL, which defeated New England 1-0 last Wednesday, will face Sporting Kansas City in the tournament's group play finale on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
