2 hurt when tanker truck hauling nitrogen rolls in Uintah County

JENSEN, Uintah County — Two men were hurt Monday when a tanker truck carrying refrigerated liquid nitrogen rolled on U.S. 40 near the Utah-Colorado border.

The driver of a Cudd Energy Services tanker was trying to turn off the highway on to Red Wash Road about 10 miles east of Jensen when the truck rolled onto its side, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Brett Gehring said.

"It looks like speed may have been a factor, from the marks on the road," Gehring said. "We still haven't had a chance to talk to the driver and passenger to really determine what happened."

The driver and passenger were able to climb out of the truck's damaged cab after the crash. They were taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center by private vehicle, Gehring said. Their injuries appeared to be minor, authorities said.

Nitrogen vented from the tank as cables and chains were run to a pair of tow trucks that pulled the tanker back onto its tires. The crash did not close U.S. 40.
