High school boys basketball: 4A first-round results


OLYMPUS 56, EAST 49: Olympus pulled away from East in double overtime to survive a 4A first-round scare. Easts Dacian Spotted Elk hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime. East missed a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime, and in the second overtime Olympus built an early cushion and pulled away for the win. Jake Lindsey led Olympus with 21 points but he struggled from the field shooting just 6 of 26. Isaac Monson added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Titans.

MAPLE MOUNTAIN 66, MOUNTAIN CREST 55: Kade Poulsen scored 28 points thanks in large part to a scintillating 19-of-20 shooting from the foul line as Maple Mountain rolled past Mountain Crest for the 4A first-round victory. Jake Dixon added 14 points for Maple Mountain, which shot 53 percent from the field and 93 percent from the foul line. Mountain Crests Jaxon Brenchley led all scorers with 30 points in the loss.

LOGAN 70, PROVO 50: Logan raced to a 21-8 first-quarter lead and never let the lead dip below double digits the rest of the way as it marched into the 4A quarterfinals. Tyler Brimhall led the Grizzlies with 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with his six rebounds. Hunter Bailey led Provo with 13 points.

KEARNS 67, TIMPANOGOS 59: In a wild, double-overtime thriller at the Dee Events Center, Kearns rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to knock off Timpanogos to advance to the 4A quarterfinals. Bushmen Ebet led the Cougars with 24 points, while Buay Kuajian added 19 points.

SPANISH FORK 53, ROY 44: Despite an off offensive night from leading scorer Hunter Schofield, Spanish Fork got 18 points from Benson Rhees and 15 more from Taylor Anderson as it pulled away from Roy in the fourth quarter for the first round victory.

BOUNTIFUL 58, MURRAY 56: Trailing the entire game, Bountiful pulled out a dramatic victory as Zac Seljaas buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to stun Murray. The Spartans led by 13 points early in the fourth, but the Braves fought back and Seljaas delivered the dagger as he finished with 30 points. Jeff Pollard added 17 points for Bountiful.

OREM 50, HIGHLAND 42: Richard Harward scored 16 points and Wilhelm Clark added 14 as Orem ground out a very workmanlike victory over Highland to advance to the 4A quarterfinals.

TIMPVIEW 83, SKY VIEW 53: The T-Birds shot 84 percent from field (16 of 19) and 89 percent from beyond the arc (8 of 9) in the first half on their way to a big lead. Gabe Reid led five Thunderbirds in double figures with 14 points.
