PARK CITY — A year after he won the first Olympic gold medal ever awarded in his sport of ski halfpipe, David Wise will compete in Park City against some of the same athletes.

The competition promises to be exciting as he and U.S. skier Torin Yater-Wallace tied for the day’s top score — 92.40 points.

The other U.S. athletes to qualify for Saturday’s final (noon at Park City Mountain Resort) were Gus Kenworthy (86.20 points) and 20-year-old Alex Ferreira (90 points).

Canadian Simon D’Artois and France’s Kevin Rolland will also compete in the finals, making it the most star-studded event of this weekend’s FIS Freestyle World Cup and U.S. Grand Prix.

Most of the athletes are fresh from the Winter X Games and ready to try to earn a little more hardware before the season ends.

In the women’s ski halfpipe competition, Brita Sigourney qualified with the highest score (64 points), while others who will be competing in the final on Saturday are Jamie and Jeanee Crane-Mauzy and Salt Lake’s Jen Hudak.

In women’s snowboard slopestyle, Canadian Jenna Blasman qualified with the top score (84.25 points), while U.S. snowboarder Karly Shorr earned the last spot in the finals with 75.75 points.

All events are free and will be held at Eagle Superpipe and Kings Crown Slope Style course.
