LOGAN — Utah State University accidentally emailed the names and social security numbers of more than 300 people on Thursday.

The school announced Friday that the email including the names and social security numbers of 347 people had been sent by a staff member and was sent to 1,033 people, including USU student veterans, according to a notice issued by the school.

The email was sent through "an unintentional human error in which a critical procedure was not followed," according to the notice. The school has reviewed its procedures and is implementing changes to prevent similar problems.

All 347 people whose personal information was shared were contacted, received an apology and have been enrolled in a year-long credit monitoring program at no cost, according to school officials.
