The Utah Valley University men's golf team opens its spring season Feb. 9-10, at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah. The two-round, 36-hole tournament takes place at Sunbrook Golf Club and will be hosted by Southern Utah University.
The tournament will be contested at the Pointe and Black Rock nines at Sunbrook Golf Course. The Wolverines open the tournament with an 18-hole round on Monday and wrap up play with a final 18-hole round on Tuesday.
"The guys are excited to get back on the course and compete," Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran said. "We have taken advantage of the great weather and have been able to get a lot of good practice in."
Utah Valley sophomore JT Timmons returns to defend his record-setting individual title at the event. Timmons shot an Invitational record 134 (67-67) last year to finish four strokes ahead of Dixie State's Hayden Christensen.
Utah Valley returns to competition for the first time since it wrapped up fall play at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii, where the team recorded a 12th-place finish. Senior Preston Richards led the Wolverines in Hawaii as he finished in a tie for 29th place with a three-round score of 219 (+6).
The teams competing at the tournament include Boise State, Cal State Northridge, College of Charleston, Dixie State, Long Beach State, North Dakota, Northern Kentucky, Oral Roberts, Utah State, Weber State, Westminster and host Southern Utah.
