The Utah Valley University men's golf team sits in seventh place on the 16-team leaderboard at the Bandon Dunes Championship after shooting a 1-over-par 289 in Friday's first round at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Senior Brayden Eriksen sits in a tie for fourth place after shooting a 3-under-par 69. Eriksen recorded four birdies on the day and sits just four strokes behind San Jose State's Cody Blick for the lead heading into Saturday's second round.
"Conditions were tough but the guys hung in there," Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran said. "Brayden played very well. We need all five players to step up tomorrow. We can make a big jump tomorrow with a solid round."
Freshman Blair Bursey and senior Michael Dart are in a tie for the 34th spot after recording first round scores of 1-over-par 73. Sophomore JT Timmons is in a tie for 44th with a 2-over par, and senior Preston Richards sits in a tie for the 76th spot after recording a 6-over-par 78.
The Wolverines head into second round play on Saturday just nine strokes off the lead. UC Davis currently sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 7-under-par 281 on Friday.
The third and final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring will be available on UVU's website, with links to Golfstat.
