March Madness: it is finally here.
And with that, college basketball statistical expert Ken Pomeroy (KenPom.com) stops by the Deseret News Sports podcast to give his insight on the scientific side of college hoops.
While filling out your bracket, Pomeroy tells us why the numbers show Kentucky is going to be hard to stop, but also why a team like Arizona is a potential champion favorite, as well. But there's a fair warning about playing the odds.
"In the NCAA tournament, most likely outcome has a very small probability," Pomeroy cautions.
How about Utah and BYU?
Pomeroy explains why he could see the Utes making a run into the Final Four, even while heading into the NCAA tournament in a slump. "They actually have a decent of pulling it off. Thats sort of my off-the-board upset pick," he says. Pomeroy adds that the Cougars game Tuesday against Mississippi has the chance at being thrilling, and that Xavier might be a difficult matchup for BYU.
Theres also some upsets to possibly look out for, Utah included. Pomeroy gives us the lower seeds to watch that could break your bracket.
