SOUTH JORDAN — A family was displaced from their home when a fire broke out Tuesday evening.

A man and his two children were inside their home at 4149 Berridale Circle when they heard a loud boom and lost power about 7:45 p.m. The man went upstairs, found a large blaze and called 911, said South Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Reed Thompson. The man and his children evacuated and were not injured.

Flames and smoke were visible above the home when crews arrived, Thompson said. About 25 firefighters took 10 minutes to knock down the blaze.

Thompson estimated the fire caused between $50,000 and $60,000 in damage. It likely originated in an upstairs bedroom, where the damage was most severe, he said. The roof was also heavily damaged.

The home is temporarily uninhabitable, according to Thompson.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated late Tuesday, but foul play is not suspected.
