WEST VALLEY CITY — Four people were injured Thursday after a minivan ran a red light and caused a four-vehicle crash.
Just after 8 a.m., a minivan traveling east on 3500 South ran a red light at the intersection with 4800 West, hitting a Buick Regal, which spun and hit two other cars. The van continued on until it hit a tree and came to rest, according to West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer
The minivan had six children inside, none of whom was wearing a seat belt, according to West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku. Two of the children, the driver of the Buick and a pedestrian who was struck, were all taken to local hospitals for injuries that were not life-threatening, she said.
The woman driving the minivan will be cited for running a red light, but police were still investigating other factors that may have led to the crash, Vainuku said.
The man driving the Buick sustained the worst injuries, but the crash could have been much worse, Hauer said.
"It's amazing to me that he's not in worse condition than he is," Hauer said. "Especially given there's a lot of children involved and people in crosswalks, we're pretty lucky on this one."
