After the first day of events at the prestigious Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, senior Michael McPherson sits in sixth place with 3,772 points while sophomore Rusty Jones is in ninth place with 3,714 points in the decathlon out of 20 competitors.

"Although his energy levels are better now, Michael still feels a bit fatigued from his last month of competition. I am happy he is executing aspects of his competition, but he needs another couple of weeks before he has his full endurance back," associate head coach Kirke Adamson said. "Rusty, in his first decathlon in over three years, is on track for a huge 600-700 point personal record. He has shown his competitive nature as he set individual PR's in the first (100m) and last (400m) events of day one."

McPherson ran the 100m dash with a time of 10.79 seconds to earn him his best 908 points on the day. He also jumped 7.10m in the long jump for 838 points. He ran his 400m dash in 49.23 seconds to earn himself 850 points.

Jones set a personal record in the 100m dash with a time of 11.07 seconds for 845 points, a personal record in the 400m with a time of 50.88 seconds for 774 points and jumped 6.82m in the long jump for 771 points.

In the shot put, McPherson threw 9.60m for 462 points, while Jones threw 11.19m for 557 points. In the high jump, McPherson cleared 1.90m for 714 points, while Jones cleared 1.96m for 767 points.

Both Wolverines continue to compete in the decathlon's remaining five events on Thursday. Complete results from the day can be found on UVU's website.
