No, we don’t need a primary seat belt law. Please don’t push for this law in the hope that it would nudge your family to do something that you yourself should teach them to do. That’s civically lazy and irresponsible, and further erodes freedom.
When we lose freedom, usually it’s not because of foreign enemies. Instead, sadly, it’s because of well-meaning people in our own country who use the heavy hand of government to force people to do things that they should decide for themselves.
Seat belt laws are one of those defining issues that reveal whether a lawmaker truly believes in freedom. Wearing a seat belt is a good idea. Mandating it by force of law is not.
