SALT LAKE CITY — Taunalyn Rutherford will speak on “Subcontinent to Salt Lake City: Voices of Latter-day Pioneers in India” on Thursday, March 12, as part of the LDS Church History Library’s Pioneers in Every Land series.
Rutherford, an adjunct instructor at Brigham Young University, will present at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square. The event is free and open to the public.
According to a news release, there are about 11,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in India and the first stake was organized in 2012. The first missionaries went to India in 1851.
Rutherford’s presentation includes stories of faith and perseverance of members of the LDS Church in India along with a brief overview of the last 50 years of the LDS Church in India, according to a news release. Rutherford, a Salt Lake City native, first went to India as part of the BYU Young Ambassadors in 1986.
The Pioneers in Every Land lectures are held on the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square, 50 N. West Temple St. Limited free parking is provided at the Conference Center. The Church History Library also encourages guests to use UTA transit.
