SALT LAKE CITY — Police were trying to determine Monday what led to the death of a man whose body was found near the Jordan River Parkway Trail.

The body of a man in his 20s or 30s was found in the area of 800 N. Riverside Drive about 3 p.m., Salt Lake police said. He had reportedly suffered a traumatic injury.

Investigators determined the man's identity Monday night, but his name was not released pending notification of family.

Officers were speaking with neighbors and anyone who may have witnessed what happened to the man. Suicide and homicide were not ruled out as possible causes. The death was labeled as suspicious.

There were reports from neighbors of a gunshot in the area, investigators said.

People walking along the trail found the man between a walking path and the riverbank. Officers roped off the areas around the trail after arriving at the scene.

The man's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
