WEST VALLEY CITY ‒ A truly unique event is coming to Rocky Mountain Raceways this weekend. Beginning Saturday afternoon and running throughout the evening, RMR’s grandstands will be alive with excitement and two of its tracks will be rumbling with horsepower.

“Horsepower Heaven” is a one-of-a-kind event, and no other racing venue in the country provides quite the same setting, with action happening on the Young Kia Drag Strip and the American First Credit Union Super Oval on the same night.

“This is our favorite event of the year,” RMR General Manager Mike Emes said. “Being able to run both tracks on the same night is a logistical challenge, but we have it down to a science. Horsepower Heaven is certainly a unique entertainment experience that we get to provide for racing fans in Utah.”

Note that the action won’t take place simultaneously, but races will alternate between the drag strip and the oval beginning at 1 p.m. with practices and qualifying and running until after dark when American daredevil “Mr. Dizzy” does a bus jump. RMR’s diehard racing fans participate in their enthusiastic ways, moving the short distance back and forth between the two grandstands.

Key events will include drag racing eliminations beginning at 5:50 p.m., Jet Car exhibitions at 6:40 p.m. and Maverik Modified heat races on the oval at 7:35 p.m. After dark, there will be the Maverik Modified main event plus Summit ET Series, Fastlane Machine Top Sportsman and Performance Place Top Dragster finals.

Finally, the night will come to a visual crescendo with another exhibition of nitro-burners and fire breathing Jet Cars, plus a performance from Mr. Dizzy, the stuntman featured on History Channel’s “American Daredevil.”
