ROY — An elderly man with Alzheimer's disease who had been missing since Sunday afternoon was found Monday evening and airlifted to Ogden Regional Medical Center, police say.
John Thurgood, 82, was last seen at his Roy home about 1 p.m. Sunday. He was believed to be with his pet Chihuahua when he disappeared.
Thurgood was found unconscious in the Snowville, Box Elder County, area by two Union Pacific railroad workers, said Roy police detective Jason Vanderwarf.
Thurgood was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and later airlifted, Vanderwarf said.
Thurgood remained unconscious Monday night, according to Vanderwarf. His condition wasn't immediately known.
It wasn't clear Monday why Thurgood ended up in Box Elder County. He reportedly has a history of wandering from home.
"(Thurgood) had left his home on a previous occasion and was later found in Nevada without fuel, water or food, and no recollection of where he was or how he got there," Roy police officer Matthew Gwynn said in a prepared statement Monday morning.
