SALT LAKE CITY — A 23-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a car early Saturday morning.

The victim, whose name was not released, was wearing dark clothing and walking in the center of the southbound lane when he was hit at about 3:30 a.m. at 771 N. Victory Road, according to Salt Lake City police Lt. Michael Ross.

Ross said the driver of the vehicle was "pretty shaken up" by the incident, but did not appear to have been driving impaired at the time. The driver called 911 when it happened.

"The driver would have had a very difficult time seeing this gentleman," Ross said, adding that it was "very odd" that the victim was in the area at that time, as there was no vehicle found nearby.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
