FAIRVIEW, Sanpete County — A 12-year-old boy coming home from a family camping trip was killed in a rollover crash on Saturday.

Easton Taylor, 12, of West Jordan, was riding with a group of five other male teens northbound on US 89 near Fairview. The group, ranging in ages from 12 to 18, were either brothers, cousins or friends, all from West Jordan and West Valley, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. They were reportedly driving home from a camping trip in the Huntington/Eccles Canyons area.

A 16-year-old driver was reportedly trying to catch up with the adults in their group who were in a vehicle ahead of them, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Evan Kirby. He attempted to pass another vehicle when his left front tire failed, according to the UHP. The SUV went off the road and hit a drainage ditch before it rolled several times, the UHP stated.

None of the six occupants were wearing seatbelts. Two occupants, including Easton, were partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle, Kirby said. Other motorists who pulled over to assist the teens lifted the SUV off the teens. The condition of the other boy was not immediately known Sunday.

A third boy was completely ejected, Kirby said. That boy's condition was also not immediately available.
