SALT LAKE CITY — A man punched a store clerk who tried to stop him from stealing items from a Maverik gas station overnight Thursday, police said.
Mohamed Bilal Mohamud, 18, allegedly hit the woman after she confronted him about the items just before 1:30 a.m. inside the Maverik at 1270 S. Main.
The woman was evaluated at the store and not transported for medical care, said Salt Lake police detective Richard Chipping. Mohamud was arrested for investigation of robbery and assault.
Chipping said he didn't know how many times the clerk was punched. A customer inside the store reportedly convinced Mohamud to leave the store after the alleged assault.
Charges have not been filed in the case.
