Thank you, thank you, for the incredible editorial on Monday of this week (“As we mourn with Charleston, families of murder victims have set example of forgiveness,” June 22).
Most of what we hear and read is blame, hate, racism of all kinds as it comes over radio, newspapers and all media. Is it any wonder that violence is so rampant? Then we have this incredible example of forgiveness from South Carolina.
I have been avoiding editorials a lot as of late because of the negative rhetoric that surrounds us on all sides. Yes, guns are an issue we need to look at, but the words we speak carry a load of responsibility. Yes, we have freedom of speech along with many other freedoms we enjoy and love, but with freedom comes a conscious responsibility to think through the consequences of our thoughts and words. We need look no further than those amazing people in Charleston, South Carolina, and may our words mirror their example.
