CENTENNIAL, Colo. — James Holmes' lawyers are cross-examining a psychiatrist who interviewed him for 22 hours and determined he was legally sane during the Colorado theater shooting that killed 12 people.
Defense attorney Daniel King started asking William Reid on Thursday about the reliability of his interview and diagnosis. Reid interviewed Holmes two years after the July 2012 shooting.
The defense is trying to raise doubts about the videotaped interview, which shows Holmes talking blankly about killing strangers to increase his self-worth.
Experts say the video could have an emotional impact on jurors, raising new challenges for defense attorneys. Prosecutors played the entire video for jurors over a week.
Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Reid concluded he was mentally ill but capable of knowing right from wrong.
