WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Mourners gathered at a Catholic church in Wilmington on Friday to pay their respects to former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer last week at the age of 46.

A daylong public viewing was held Friday for Biden, eldest son of Vice President Joe Biden, at St. Anthony of Padua church. On Thursday, Beau Biden lay in honor in the state Senate chamber in Dover.

Mourners began lining up outside the church even before Biden's flag-draped casket arrived shortly after noon. Viewing hours were to be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony on Saturday, with President Barack Obama giving a eulogy.

Joe Biden and his family greeted mourners Friday in a receiving line next to his son's casket as sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows of the church.

Among those who came to pay their respects Friday were Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and U.S. senators representing Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
