Dave Rose added a local piece to his 2016 recruiting class on Monday when Timpview’s Gavin Baxter committed to the Cougars.

Baxter announced via Twitter he would be joining the hometown BYU squad.

Scout.com lists the 6-foot-7, 180-pound forward as a four-star recruit with offers from Arizona State, BYU, UCLA and Utah State. Scout also has Baxter rated as the 53rd-best prospect in the 2016 class, including 10th at his power forward position.

The senior-to-be averaged a team-best 15.5 points per game last season. He also showed his range by hitting 25 3-pointers in 2014-15, tops on the T’Birds’ team. Baxter helped Timpview reach the 4A state quarterfinals last season.

Baxter scored in double figures in all but three games for the T'Birds last year.
