LOGAN — A deer was knocked unconscious after running into the Aggie Blue Bikes shop and startling a Utah State University employee.
Andy Miller, a USU facilities employee, was tearing out floor tiles on his hands and knees for the shop's renovation. Working with his back to the door, which had been left open for ventilation reasons, and wearing earphones while listening to music, Miller barely heard the deer come into the shop.
"I turned and it was right there, running, and so I just hit it and it went down," Miller said, swinging the tool used to lift tile to demonstrate.
Miller said he felt bad after he hit it, fearing that he had accidentally killed the deer. But after a moment, the deer stood up and made its way out of the shop.
USU Police Sgt. Travis Dunn said it is common to have deer on campus, but not common for deer to enter buildings.
"This particular area, I'm wondering because it was sunk back in, if the deer sort of got scared and pushed back in there," Dunn said. "And with the door being open, decided to sneak in that way because people were walking on sidewalks and people were driving by. So I'm thinking the deer just got scared and was trying to get away from people."
Dunn said he tried to find the deer afterward, but was unable to locate it.
