Each outing, he proved that he was getting better. – Lail’s Double-A manager, told The Trentonian reporter Kyle Franko
Bingham High product Brady Lail is another step closer to the show.
The New York Yankees promoted the righty Monday to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the International League following a successful first stint in Double-A Trenton this season.
Lail was 6-4 with a 2.45 ERA in 20 games, including 19 starts. He struck out 63 while walking just 26 and surrendered only two home runs in 106 1/3 innings after starting the season in advanced Single-A Tampa.
“Each outing, he proved that he was getting better,” Al Pedrique, Lail’s Double-A manager, told The Trentonian reporter Kyle Franko on Tuesday. “He was at the point where we thought it was time for him to get challenged by pitching at Triple-A. … It was time for him to go.”
However, his first start with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre wasn’t as pretty. He allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, as the RailRiders fell to Columbus 6-4 Tuesday. In the loss, Lail matched his Trenton season numbers in home runs allowed, serving up two blasts.
Lail’s second outing went much smoother. He allowed just one run on four hits and four walks in six innings, picking up his first Triple-A win as the RailRiders defeated Toledo 9-1 Sunday. Lail, who also turned 22 Sunday, is rated as the No. 14 prospect in the Yankees' minor league system, according to MLB.com Pipeline.
