It seems naysayers in Kaysville must live in a different Kaysville than I do. In fact, in most of the negative propaganda, most, if not all, of the message is not about what a particular candidate will do for the city, but rather what another group of candidates will continue to do to make Kaysville such a horrible place to live.

At times, after reading their negative propaganda, I’m left thinking I must be living in a city filled with violence, fiscal collapse and the dark conspiracies you find in the national media — but that is simply not the case in Kaysville and people know it. To instill fear is the common element throughout these negative messages.

As you vote this season, please recall the words of FDR: “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.” While certain generations hold those words to be immortal, another generation might recall the words to a young Anakin Skywalker: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Politicians speaking about only what they are against do so to create fear. It’s time to demand they tell us what they actually stand for — which takes far more effort and brain power.
