As a kid, the end of summer was something to be mourned. It meant the end of freedom and the start of school.

But as a parent, the day is less dread and more excitement.

To prepare your children for school, you have to go back-to-school shopping and mentally prepare them for their first day — but once the new semester starts, the pressure begins to wear off.

To make sure your kids are ready to go back to school, start easing them into their new routines before the first day of class, Julie Green reported for The Huffington Post.

For example, start changing your children’s sleep schedules to reflect their new routine and show them to the school they will be attending.

“You may also want to start limiting screen time and factoring in short writing/math exercises to wake up the brain, so that homework doesn't come as such a cruel shock,” Green warns. “It still will.”

Once the kids are safely dropped off at school, don’t feel bad about feeling a little glad summer is over. You’re not alone. Parents have been taking to Twitter to share their feelings about the momentous occasion for weeks.
